Riverton Farm Historic Site 1889 & The Hayward Family

Riverton Farm Historic Site 1889 & The Hayward Family
Riverton was the family home and farm of the Hayward family.

The development of Harvey began when Dr William Thornborough Hayward, with Dr Henry Harvey, and the Gibbs brothers, formed a land partnership in 1888. They subdivided south of Uduc Road in 1890 and north of Uduc Road in 1895.

Hayward and Harvey generously donated land, including for the town hall, school and recreation ground, and sold land to the Government at a loss for the Harvey Irrigation Scheme.

The Hayward family resided at Riverton farm by the river until the late 1940s. This historic property began as a citrus orchard and later became a dairy farm.

The homestead was demolished in the 1970s.
