Eaton Head Race on the Brunswick & Collie Rivers

April 19

Eaton Head River Race is one of Western Australia’s valued long‑distance rowing events.
The race dates back to the early- to mid‑1990s.
Set on the picturesque Brunswick and Collie Rivers, the race traditionally starts at their junction and showcases the endurance and skill of crews over a true head‑style course.
Originally contested as a handicap event for sculls, pairs and fours, the race later expanded to include eights, reflecting the growth of participation and community interest. The University of Western Australia is believed to have claimed the inaugural victory, setting the tone for a strong inter‑club rivalry that continues today.
With the exception of a break of approximately seven years between 1995 and 2025, the Eaton Head Race has been run almost every year since its inception. A highlight of the event is the presentation of the “Bill Cooper Perpetual Trophy, Bunbury Head race for scullers” awarded to the first sculler to cross the line.
