Former Police Station Precinct 1954
From the early 1930s, the Brunswick community and the Roads Board tirelessly lobbied the Commissioner of Police to establish a permanent station in the town.
In 1948, the Commissioner of Police finally acquired land for a future station and quarters in Brunswick Junction. Despite ongoing local pressure, the police station and quarters were not completed until 1954. During the interim, Police attended Brunswick Junction from Harvey as required. Officers were housed in rented premises, and a permanent police presence was established at the Brunswick Hall in March 1950.
The police station and quarters were built to the standard type ‘B’ design in brick and tile, with construction contracted to Perth builder Bertie Gaunt for £7,500. In 1967–68, a new dining room was added to the quarters, and later a carport was built at the rear.
Since 1996, the Police Station has been staffed from Australind. The quarters continued to provide accommodation for officers who may not have been permanent until the station closed in 2003, marking the end of nearly 50 years of local policing from this site. The buildings are now private residences.
A plaque dedicated to the policemen who served in Brunswick Junction between 1950 and 1997 can be viewed at the Brunswick Junction District Pioneer & Community Wall.
