Doherty’s Place Historic Site

Doherty’s Place Historic Site
Nearby Doherty Place is named after Mary Elizabeth Doherty, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Wright, a pioneer of the Australind area and a previous owner of the land at this location.

Mary was born in 1889 in Australind on Roseleigh Farm and later married Jack Doherty.

Charles Frederick Wright, convict number 6762, was transported aboard the York, arriving at Fremantle in 1862. After his ticket of leave was granted in 1865, he settled in Australind.

Charles secured twenty-two acres on Old Coast Road and built a cottage that he named Roseleigh Farm.
