Brunswick Post Office 1896
- 28 Ommaney Road, Brunswick WA 6224, Australia
- Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 5pm
Before then, postal services were operated by the Crampton’s from Viewbank, north of the river crossing, where mail coach horses were changed. After the railway came to Brunswick Junction in 1893, the coach horses ceased the mail run.
The current Post Office was built in 1896 for £400, with Luke Crampton appointed as the first postmaster. In 1937, the building was extended and repainted. A new bedroom was added to the living quarters, and the working area was expanded, bringing the frontage out to the street alignment.
Like many regional post offices built by the Public Works Department during the mid-20th century, the postmaster’s or postmistress’s residence was located directly behind the public post office area, all under one roof.
While minor alterations and additions have occurred over time, the building remains largely as originally constructed and was converted to a Licensed Post Office on 1 June 1993.
The post office remains open and offers postal services and giftware.
