Adam’s Old Staging Post Historic Site 1883

Adam’s Old Staging Post Historic Site 1883
In 1882, a petition signed by the families in the Harvey River Settlement was presented to the Governor requesting that a Post Office be established near the Harvey River Bridge on the Perth-Bunbury Road.

It opened the following year, and a horse and coach delivered mail to Mrs William Adam’s house. The slab cottage with a shingle roof and a stone chimney was located on the northeast corner of South Western Highway and Weir Road.

A staging post and Harvey’s first Post Office operated there until it was damaged by fire in 1893.

Learn about Harvey’s four other post offices on our Harvey Drive and CBD heritage trails.
