Harvey Butter Factory Historic Site 1929

Since the early 1900s, Harvey has always had a rich dairy manufacturing industry. The Harvey Butter Factory was opened on this site by Premier Collier in 1929 and was a significant employer in the district until its closure in the 1970s.

It was known as the Harvey Butter Factory from 1929 to 1931, changing its name to the South West Co-Operative Dairy Products Ltd in 1932.

The opening of the factory was a demonstration of confidence in the expanding dairy industry during the Depression when other industry expansion was almost non-existent.
