The Cut Campground & Day Use Site

Within the Leschenault Peninsula Conservation Park, you will find The Cut – a campsite and day-use area with an island-like atmosphere.

You must either walk-in or boat in to reach The Cut. However, you will be rewarded with a beautiful spot that’s away from it all but only kilometres from the city.

The Cut is a small camping area at the end of the peninsula where the Leschenault Estuary meets the Indian Ocean, 8.5 km south of the Belvidere Campground and Day Use Site.

Fishing spots along the groyne can easily be reached via footpaths leading from the picnic site. Alternatively, the beach is less than a 500m walk away.

Bring your own firewood and drinking water. Toilets, picnic, and barbecue facilities are provided. The lighting of campfires in other than designated areas and periods is prohibited. It is recommended that you take a portable gas stove for cooking.

There are 11 campsites available, including two for large groups. Each site features a secluded area for a tent, a wood fireplace, and a picnic table. There are shelters and a fish cleaning table.

Getting There

Walk or cycle the Harris Track from the Belvidere Day Use Site or it’s about a 20-minute boat ride from boat ramps Ridley Place Boat Ramp. Alternatively, there is limited access by 4WD along the beach.

Camping Fees

$11 adult per night, $7 concession card holder per night, $3 child per night (over 5 and under 16 years) – Subject to Change. No bookings. It operates on a first-come-first-served basis.

Things To Do

Activities include fishing, crabbing and birdwatching along the estuary foreshore. The Estuary is a prime spot for blue swimmer crabs, prawns, black bream, herring, and whiting. A local pod of dolphins is often spotted in The Cut as well as the surrounding water. If kayaking in The Cut, it is worth noting that the current can be very strong.

Ring-tail possums are common in the area. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed.

Mosquito repellent is a must in all areas.
