Sunken Houses of Yarloop 1898

Many visitors to Yarloop ask about what appears to be ‘sunken houses’ within the town site.

They are, in fact, covers placed over wells used as a water source to drive steam engines at the famous Yarloop Workshops.

The two remaining wells were built in 1898, while other wells have been filled in.
