Eyes in the Night

When night falls, another world awakens. Beneath the trees of the Hundred Acre Wood and Lake Josephine, bright eyes emerge from branches, hollows and leaf litter.

Installed in the towns only bus shelter, this mural celebrates Myalup’s wildlife, featuring the Southern Boobook Owl, Brush-tailed Phascogale, Western Ringtail Possum and Coastal Plains Skink, along with a Sun Moth resting on a rock, waiting for daylight.

The project was driven by strong community pride and a great sense of collaboration between the Myalup Community Association and the Shire of Harvey.

The artwork was created by Myalup resident Astrid Birt, an artist, educator, environmental scientist and regenerative farmer. Inspired by the landscapes she lives and works within, Astrid’s practice draws on the connection between paddock and coast, celebrating the vibrant life and relationships that exist between people, place and the natural environment.

This artwork is one of many creative pieces across the Harvey Region. Discover the full collection here.
