Commemoration Way Trail – Meet Lieutenant Colonel Henry Murray VC

Commemoration Way Trail – Meet Lieutenant Colonel Henry Murray VC
The Commemoration Way is a drive trail along the Albany and South Western highways, featuring 19 plaques that honour Western Australia’s Victoria Cross and George Cross recipients.

Each recognises the bravery of the recipient and tells a story of the sacrifices they made in battle.

They honour each recipient with a short biography, part of their citation as gazetted, and a photo.

Within Harvey’s Stirling Cottage Gardens, you will meet Lieutenant Colonel Henry Murray VC.

Murray rose from the rank of private to lieutenant colonel in three and a half years. He was described as the most highly decorated infantry soldier of the British Empire during the First World War and Australia’s most decorated soldier.

TIP: Travel to Brunswick to meet Lieutenant Charles Pope VC.
