Commemoration Way Trail – Meet Lieutenant Charles Pope VC

Commemoration Way Trail – Meet Lieutenant Charles Pope VC
The Commemoration Way is a drive trail along the Albany and South Western highways, featuring 19 plaques that honour Western Australia’s Victoria Cross and George Cross recipients.

Each recognises the bravery of the recipient and tells a story of the sacrifices they made in battle.

They honour each recipient with a short biography, part of their citation as gazetted, and a photo.

Opposite Brownes Dairy, Brunswick, you will meet Lieutenant Charles Pope VC.

He received the Victoria Cross posthumously for his actions on 15 April 1917 on the Western Front at the Battle of Lagnicourt, which took place during the First World War.

TIP: Travel to Harvey to meet Lieutenant Colonel Henry Murray VC.
