Brunswick River Swimming Hole 1952

Brunswick River Swimming Hole 1952
Open 24 Hours. Night swimming is not recommended.
A river pool built by the community, for the community.

The Brunswick River Swimming Hole was created in 1952 thanks to the dedication and fundraising efforts of local residents.

In 1951, a group of locals came together to build a river pool for the town. Rather than seek funding from the Harvey Road Board, the Brunswick Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) raised the necessary funds through donations and community events. The river swimming pool was then constructed with volunteer labour.

The swimming hole pool was officially opened on 10 December 1952 by the P&C Association’s President, Mr Gurney Fry. Damaged in the floods of 1964 and 1982, the pool was rebuilt, with boards still installed each year ahead of the Brunswick Show to recreate the pool.

For decades, it has been a popular gathering place for residents and visitors alike, hosting swimming lessons and carnivals until the 1980s.

In later years, additional facilities were added, including a toilet block, play equipment, and a caravan park on the north side of the river, and it remains a much-loved attraction in Brunswick.
