Affordable fun these school holidays in WA’s hidden gem

If you’re looking to keep the kids entertained these school holidays without blowing the budget, the Harvey Region has you covered. Think fresh air, wide-open spaces, and experiences that feel far more expensive than they actually are. Here are five family-friendly activities you can enjoy for under $20.

Climb The Big Orange

A visit to The Big Orange is practically a rite of passage when visiting the Harvey Region. Situated amongst the orange orchards of Harvey River Estate, The Big Orange sits atop a 10-metre tower. Once you’ve climbed the tower, you can step inside the orange for a viewing platform of Harvey’s rolling hills.

A perfect activity for kids, it’s an easy climb and a great photo opportunity.

Access to The Big Orange is a gold coin donation to Telethon.

Play and learn at Stirling Cottage Gardens

Pack a picnic and head to the picturesque Stirling Cottage Gardens. Set along the Harvey River, there are plenty of picnic spots, orange orchard and secret garden. Whilst you’re there, wander the May Gibbs Walking Trail, and learn about the iconic Australian author’s most beloved stories.

If you’re craving something sweet, step inside Stirling Cottage Kitchen for a treat.

Visit Harvey Dam and Gibbs Pool

Just a short drive out of Harvey town is Harvey Dam. Holding an impressive 56 gigalitres, this is a picturesque stop on your journey. Below the dam wall is Gibbs Pool, a perfect spot to set up a picnic, view the Harvey Dam or play on the playground.

In warmer months, the dam is great for canoeing or stand-up paddleboarding.

Stop in at Harvey Cheese

Everyone loves Harvey Cheese, and there’s a reason for it!

Stop by and enjoy a cheese tasting of some of their award-winning cheese, or try some of their delicious gelato or milkshakes.

They also have a viewing window where you can watch and learn how cheese is made.

Discover the 18 wonders of Western Australia Mini Golf

Located within Old Coast Road Brewery is an 18-hole mini golf course. Each hole features a different WA attraction so you can learn as you play.

It takes around one hour to complete all 18 holes.

Tickets are $10 for children and $20 for adults.

You don’t need a big budget to create memorable school holiday moments. The Harvey Region proves that simple, nature-based experiences can be just as exciting and way more enriching for the whole family.

Whether you’re climbing The Big Orange, chasing afternoons at Harvey Dam, or playing a competitive round of mini golf, there’s something for every family.
