Knowles Store Historic Site 1890s
This is the location of Harvey’s first general store established by John Knowles in the 1890s known as The Busy Bee.

The Posts and Telegraphs Department appointed Knowles to collect and sort the coach and train mail at his home, Fairlawn and then at the store.

In 1897, his daughter Theodora Knowles was appointed Postmistress and Telegraph Operator and another daughter hosted a private school in one of the rooms.

Later in life, the store became Harvey’s first Museum.

In the 1970s it was replaced with William Barrett and Sons.
