Catalpa Rescue Guided Walk

March 21 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Help commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Catalpa rescue at the John Boyle O’Reilly Interpretive Walk and Monument with a walking tour on Saturday, 21 March.
150 years ago, a group of Irish political prisoners – sent to WA as convicts on life sentences for treason against the British Government – escaped from Fremantle prison following elaborate planning by sympathisers to their cause, including Captain George Anthony of the Catalpa.
The great-grandson of the Catalpa’s captain, Mr Jim Ryan, is hosting a free guided walk to share about the daring voyage and rescue.
The John Boyle O’Reilly Interpretive Walk and Monument is located in the Leschenault Peninsula Conservation Park, only 10 minutes from Australind and 20 minutes from Bunbury.
Bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat and water.
This event is supported by the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre as part of St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
