TransWA Australind Train

The new Australind train service is scheduled to resume on 29 June 2026, featuring modern three-car diesel units designed to improve reliability between Perth and Bunbury, via Yarloop, Cookernup, Harvey and Brunswick.

The trains are based on the Transperth C-series design, offering improved comfort, upgraded buffet services, increased bicycle storage, and USB-C charging ports.

The service will reconnect Perth and Bunbury, with four new Australind trains set to provide passengers with a more comfortable and convenient journey to and from the South West.

The new Australind trains will be reintroduced in stages, with the first train entering service from 29 June, and the remaining three trains to follow over the coming months.

Some coach services will operate until the second train comes online.

History

Initially, a steam locomotive travelling at 63 km/hr, the current train, the Australind, makes the 167 km journey in just two and a half hours.

The original Australind Train, the height of luxury for its time, is still on display at the Western Australian Rail Transport Museum.
