St Peter’s Anglican Church Brunswick 1907
St Peter’s Anglican Church, built in 1907, remains one of Brunswick’s most charming landmarks.

Before the church was built, the community gathered for services in a simple jarrah slab school hut opposite the Frogmore homestead. Land for the new church was donated by Mr D.W. Marriott, and with £108 raised by the local building committee and a £200 bank loan, construction began. The foundation stone was laid by Mr K.M. Eastman of the Wellington Lodge of Freemasons, with full Masonic honours and Bishop Frederick Goldsmith in attendance. Designed by architect F.W. Steere, the church was built by William Rafferty of nearby Roelands. The original nave served as the church until additions completed in 1911—including the sanctuary, vestry, porch and belfry—were built by Bunbury builder J.H. Gibbs with funds loaned by Mrs Rebecca Perren.

Over the decades, many young couples have been married at St Peter’s, often celebrating their receptions across the road in the Brunswick Town Hall. Local newspapers eagerly reported on these occasions, describing in detail the bridal gowns, floral arrangements, and gift and guest lists, which reflected the close-knit and social spirit of Brunswick life.

Today, the church still retains furniture and religious items donated by parishioners, each piece a reminder of the generations who have worshipped, celebrated, and gathered here. When St Michael’s at Roelands was deconsecrated, items were relocated to St Peter’s.

Join a service at 9am, on the first and third Sunday of the month.
