Itowa Wanda Open - Friday to Sunday: 10.30am - 4pm
For many years, this building served the daily needs of Brunswick locals. The “100-Mile Peg” from Perth was once located at the front of the shop.

The left-hand side of the building, now home to Itowa Wanda, was a greengrocer and deli. The first owners were the Daff family from 1940 to 1953, followed by Jack and Hazel Munday in the 1960s and the Galatis family in the 1970s and 1980s.

The right-hand side operated as Elders Smith Goldsbrough Mort Farm Supplies, and then, for some time, as ANZ Bank, which was open one morning a week.

At the time, there was no chemist in Brunswick, so after a consultation with a local doctor, the doctor would take the scripts to Harvey Pharmacy and have them filled. The Harvey Pharmacy would collect them and return the filled prescriptions to the greengrocer for pickup — a true small-town service.

Local resident Ed Caldwell recalled:

“Mr Munday would visit the farms with his ute loaded with veggies and countless other goodies. My most vivid memory of the shop was the jukebox and the classic hits of the time.”

The greengrocer was also a hub of activity. Bike races were held on Sunday mornings outside the store, with kids finding inventive ways to ride — sometimes even under the bar!
