Brunswick Recreation Ground

Brunswick Recreation Ground is a large recreation space including the Brunswick Recreation Centre, sporting facilities, a skate park, an RV Caravan Dump Point and a 48-hour free camping site. It is also home to WA’s largest annual agriculture event, the Brunswick Agricultural Show.

This Recreation Centre is hired for numerous functions and events, including community meetings, sporting events, and fitness classes. It has a capacity of 609 people.

The sporting areas are suitable for football (AFL) and cricket. The site also has excellent cattle handling and equestrian facilities.

The Recreation Ground complex is also available for hire through the Shire of Harvey. RV and caravaners are welcome to use the free Dump Point. There is also a 24/7 toilet facility at the entrance to the grounds.

The Brunswick Agricultural Show is traditionally held on the fourth Saturday in October.

History

The grounds were first cleared in the early 1930s for community activities. The Brunswick Show Committee was formed in 1931, and the first show was held on the grounds in 1932.

The grounds were extended in 1949 when the Harvey Road Board resumed additional land from owner Mr Heppingstone.

Up to the 1950s, an active football competition occurred between the adjacent communities at Brunswick, Yarloop, Harvey and Mornington. In 1956, the teams from Brunswick, Harvey and Wokalup/Benger combined to form the Harvey – Brunswick Football Club.
