Reflecting on the Success of the Harvey Region Heritage Festival 2025

The inaugural Harvey Region Heritage Festival was delivered by the Destination Harvey Region (DHR) team from 5–7 September 2025. The three-day event celebrated the region’s art, culture, and food heritage through a series of curated experiences designed to engage both residents and visitors.

Event Overview

The Heritage Festival aimed to showcase the Harvey Region’s historical and cultural assets through immersive experiences, open days, heritage workshops, and self-guided walking tours. A total of 17 satellite and self-guided events were delivered across the weekend.

Key highlights included:

  • The Tales & Taste Progressive Dinner, which combined local storytelling with regionally inspired dining experiences.

  • The Stirling Cottage High Tea, which attracted significant visitation and online engagement.

The event attracted attendees from across the Southwest and metropolitan Perth, demonstrating strong potential for regional tourism growth through heritage-led activation.

Outcomes and Performance

The festival generated positive media coverage for the Harvey Region and successfully expanded awareness of the Shire’s tourism and cultural offerings.

Digital engagement was strong, with:

  • 42,628 social media impressions

  • 25,586 total reach

  • 8,893 website views, including 615 unique page views for the events listing

These figures reflect a high level of online interest for a first-year event delivered within a short planning timeframe.

Key Learnings

While the festival was considered successful overall, several operational and strategic learnings were identified for future iterations:

  • Weather impacts: Many outdoor satellite events were relocated due to wet conditions across.

  • Limited budget: A constrained budget restricted the ability to host a large-scale, free community event to boost participation.

  • Marketing consistency: Marketing support among satellite operators varied. Additional guidance on event promotion would help improve reach and attendance.

  • Lead time: The eight-week coordination period limited the DHR team’s capacity to maximise event promotion and regional visitation.

Next Steps

Building on the success of the inaugural year, the DHR team is currently pursuing external grant funding to support the delivery of an expanded Heritage Festival in 2026. Additional funding and an extended planning period will enable greater community engagement, increased visitor participation, and more robust marketing activity.
