Brunswick came alive over the weekend, with cameras up and filming for an upcoming documentary, Overtaken.
The documentary follows Brunswick-born athlete Mackenzie “Macka” Burgoyne as he sets out to conquer one of Western Australia’s toughest endurance feats: completing the 1000km Bibbulmun Track in record time. Known for its relentless difficulty, the track has long been considered a near-impossible challenge to complete under such conditions. Macka’s attempt is more than just a physical test, it’s a story of resilience, ambition, and the pull of home.
Perth-based production company Sandbox is behind the lens, capturing Macka’s attempt. Over the weekend, the crew came to Brunswick, filming the town that played such an important role in Macka’s formative years. From his Primary School to the local Brunswick Tavern, the crew captured moments that will show a personal backdrop to Macka’s epic undertaking.
Not only does the project highlight the town’s connection to Macka, but it also showcases Brunswick and the Harvey Region on a national scale.
The documentary is scheduled for release around April 2026.
