The Harvey Region is just a short 90-minute drive from Perth or Margaret River. If you’re travelling by car, take the Forest Highway along the coast or the South Western Highway in the east. Get off the highways and weave your way across the Region to uncover unique road-side stalls and other hidden gems.

The Harvey Region can also be accessed from Perth by train or bus.

Due to its position in Australia’s South West, the Harvey Region has a largely Mediterranean climate, with mild temperatures in summer, spring and autumn, and cooler wetter winters.

If you’re lucky, you can sometime spot blooms coming through as early as August and September. By October and November, wildflower season is in full bloom and a riotous display of colours brightens up the whole Harvey Region.

The Harvey Region can also be accessed from Perth by train or bus. Once you’re here, buses are available in Australind (to and from Bunbury) and most of our towns are easily traversed by bike.

We recommend booking ahead for accommodation, tours, experiences and events to guarantee availability. For the more spontaneous traveller, many of our experiences (especially nature and outdoor activities) don’t require bookings.

Visitors to WA’s national parks and conservation reserves don’t require approvals from the Parks and Wildlife Service, however, they must abide by the rules outlined here.

There are currently three free RV Short Stay Rest Areas in the Harvey Region, including sites at Australind, Brunswick Junction and Yarloop. Visitors travelling in fully self-contained RVs can utilise these sites for a maximum of 48 hours, provided you have made an online booking.

The summer months (December to February) can be very hot and dry. We recommend loose-fitting, breathable clothing and sun-safe items such as hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.

During autumn (March to May), the weather generally remains warm with some cooler nights and occasional rain. Depending on what month you’re visiting, you may want to pack a light jacket, rain coat or bug repellent.

Winter (June to August) is the chilliest and wettest time of year, so opt for long sleeves/trousers, layers, and prepare for rain with a coat or umbrella.

Come spring (September to November), the weather starts to warm up again with sporadic rain. Pack light layers and sun-safe items such as hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Currently, due to farm health and safety regulations, there is nowhere in the Harvey Region where you can milk a cow. However, there are plenty of friendly farm animals that you can interact with – and sometimes help feed – at our Farm Stays and Harvey Farm Barn.
