Harvey RSL Hall 1938

Since 1938, the Harvey RSL Hall has provided a refuge for return servicemen.

RSLWA comprises a State Branch at ANZAC House in Perth’s CBD and 114 Sub-Branches throughout Western Australia, with a focus on the well-being, welfare, advocacy, transition and commemoration support to serving and ex-service personnel of the Australian Defence Force and their families.

This historic building is also available for hire via the Shire of Harvey. With a capacity of up to 108 people and kitchen facilities, consider hosting your next function here. The building still boasts its original dado boards and timber double doors.

The building is also home to the Harvey Playgroup WA.

History

The Harvey RSL Hall officially opened in July 1938 after fundraising by Harvey RSL members and the Women’s Auxiliary raised enough money to purchase a block in Becher Street and build the Hall.

Prior to that, Harvey’s Returned Service personnel from World War I held meetings at Harvey War Memorial Library.

The front wall was constructed with handmade concrete bricks.

Over the years, Returned Service personnel from World War II and their families maintained the Hall.

Along with RSL meetings, it also hosted weddings and dances.
