May Gibbs Trail Signage Refreshed at Stirling Cottage Gardens

The Destination Harvey Region (DHR) team at the Shire of Harvey has recently completed a refresh of the interpretive signage along the May Gibbs Trail, located within the Stirling Cottage Garden Precinct.

The short walking trail follows the edge of Stirling Cottage Gardens along the Harvey River and highlights the connection between Harvey and renowned Australian author and illustrator May Gibbs, creator of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. May spent part of her childhood living in Harvey and later returned to visit family in the area.

The previous signage had been in place for many years and had begun to deteriorate. The new panels align with the updated interpretation style recently introduced throughout Stirling Cottage Gardens and other heritage sites across the Shire.

While the refreshed signage retains largely the same content, some illustrations have been updated to align with current copyright requirements. Visitors may also notice a small new addition — a hidden bush baby included within the signage along the trail. The Shire would like to acknowledge and thank the community members who originally installed the signage in the garden, helping to share the story of this special place.

The signage upgrade forms part of the Shire’s ongoing work to maintain and enhance visitor experiences and heritage interpretation within the Harvey region.
