Yarloop Swimming Pool Historic Site

The Yarloop Swimming Club was formed in 1934 and one of its first duties was to find a suitable site for a pool

A large pool 150 yards long by 30 yards wide by about 7 or 8 feet deep was formed by damming Logue Brook at the west end of Wickham Street, with a timber bulkhead that was removed during the winter months to allow the pool to flush.

In 1936, the Club was very active on Sundays with regular at-home races and carnivals between Nanga Brook and Dwellingup. A springboard, change rooms, toilets and a refreshment kiosk were built. Over time, the site fell into disrepair, and the town sought a new place to swim.

By the early 1950s, an irrigation stop in Logue Brook at Clifton Road was being used for swimming, but was considered to be unsafe.

By 1957, the Road Board extended this brook to form a pool and later, with the help of local farmers, built a diving board, toilets and a picnic area. Swimming lessons were taught here and it was a popular place to spend time.

In 2007, the water was required for piped irrigation, leaving the residents of Yarloop sadly without a pool.
