The historic Brunswick Tavern is your place for cold beer, local wine and great pub meals with friends and family.
Located in the riverside village of Brunswick Junction on the South Western Highway, The Brunswick represents everything good about wholesome, country hospitality.
Built in the early 1900s, past owner Clinton Ford brought it back to life in 2017. Restored to create a warm and relaxed space, where old meets new, the tavern consists of a dining room with a roaring fireplace in winter, a casual bar area, and a summer beer garden. Climb the grand stairs case and you will find great, budget-style accommodation.
The food alone is worth a road trip! In 2023, they announced the Brunswick Tavern as a country finalist for the Australian Hoteliers Association and Little Creatures WA Best Steak Sandwich Competition.
History
Mr S Copley built the Brunswick Hotel in 1906.
The first wayside licence and a licence for a billiard room was granted to Joseph Edgbert Brown.
In Brown’s application for the licence, the hotel was described as:
Containing bar, two sitting rooms, bagatelle room, dining room, kitchen, and six bedrooms, exclusive of those required by the family, rented by me from S. Copley, and occupied by myself and now licensed under the sign of the Brunswick Hotel.
It was not the first hotel in Brunswick, as the timber Black Swan Hotel managed by Paddy O’Brien had previously existed on the east side of the railway line.
Sadly, the hotel suffered considerable damage in the 1960s because of a truck colliding with the building, and the upper balconies were removed.
